Shooting at Howe Park Leaves 4 Shot in the Arden-Arcade Area of Sacramento

Officials in Sacramento County are investigating a shooting incident that erupted Saturday evening at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area while deputies were dissolving a large unsanctioned party of hundreds of attendees.

How It Started

Deputies were first called to the park on Howe Avenue at about 6:30 in the evening after being notified of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. Following that, additional information came in describing a possible fight breaking out at the location.

A sheriff's airship conducted an aerial sweep but could not confirm any ongoing fight. Nevertheless, authorities discovered that a massive group had gathered without authorization without any permit or approval.

How the Shooting Unfolded

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies moved to clear the area by setting up around the park's perimeter and issuing commands over loudspeakers instructing attendees to vacate the area. Approximately 15 minutes were spent for people to comply.

As the crowd was being cleared that between 20 and 25 rounds were discharged. The sudden gunfire sparked chaos as hundreds ran. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies immediately began identifying shooting victims.

Four People Shot

In total, four people were found to have been shot. The victims — consisting of one woman and three men each apparently in their 20s at the time of the incident — were transported to Sacramento area hospitals. Medical teams indicated that two were treated for serious injuries, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. Thankfully, all four were expected to survive.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District also responded and provided medical assistance the injured on location.

What Investigators check here Found

The bulk of the shooting was confirmed to have taken place along Cottage Way alongside the Home Depot located at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Detectives located more spent casings on the Cottage Way roadway. Bullet damage were noted in the iron fence alongside the Home Depot store. These findings suggested that at least one of the shooters had been firing southward from the Cottage Way area toward the Home Depot. The store itself was placed on lockdown while the scene was active. Crime scene personnel stayed at the location for hours.

Detainees in Solano County

Details gathered over scanner radio traffic confirmed that a Kia was pulled over in an area within Solano County. Four suspects were in the vehicle at the time of the stop. Sheriff's units were dispatched to Solano County to return them to Sacramento for investigation. Video evidence established that there were two gunmen.
